What Does Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory Mean?

The Better Business Bureau has three business performance record terms:
  • Satisfactory
  • Unsatisfactory
  • No comment at this time
Satisfactory
To have a "satisfactory record" with the Bureau, a company must be in business for at least 12 months, properly and promptly address matters referred to it by the Bureau, and be free from an unusual volume or pattern of complaints and law enforcement action involving its marketplace conduct.  In addition, the Bureau must have a clear understanding of the company's business and no concerns about its industry.

Unsatisfactory
An unsatisfactory business performance record is reported when a company has a specific circumstance, which is covered in the Reliability Report.

No comment at this time
If a firm does not clearly fall into the satisfactory or unsatisfactory term, then no comment is given.

In addition to the BBB Reliability Report, you are encouraged to request and research customer references, consult with local or state offices responsible for any registration or licensing of the firm in question, and perform any other appropriate research into the firm's offer or the background of the firm or its principals.

BBB reports are based on a firm's activities as reflected in Bureau files over the last three years.
